New Wycliffe Home

Vista is one of the oldest and largest local charities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We’ve been working with people with sight loss and their families for over 160 years.

It is our aim to:

1) Promote eye health to prevent avoidable sight loss;

2) Reduce the impact of sight loss, and

3) Provide support and care for people affected by sight loss.

As well as rehabilitation and residential homes, Vista provides specialist services for people with learning disabilities, dementia and dual sensory impairment.

We're there at the point of diagnosis, supporting children and adults in eye clinics by providing information, advice, guidance and support when it's most needed.

We teach people with sight loss new skills and provide specialist equipment and tools. Our qualified specialist staff have a wealth of experience in supporting people with sight loss to develop important practical, social and emotional skills, building their confidence and independence.

We support children and adults with sight loss, providing specialist leisure activities, creative and expressive music sessions, and professional rehabilitation support in both the home and the community.

We aim to tackle social isolation and ensure that every person we work with has real human contact, through social groups to people who would otherwise be isolated and unable to leave their homes. We also provide over 70,000 talking newspapers a year, making a real difference to the lives of socially isolated people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Losing your sight can be frightening. Vista is there, enabling people to regain their independence and live fulfilling lives.

My wife has Dementia and I am no longer capable of caring for her at home.
We have a friend who had first-hand experience of the New Wycliffe Home and highly recommended it therefore, based on her view, we (myself and daughter) visited the home and jointly decided that it is our first choice. Initially, it was only for a one-month respite care but after comments on visits by her friends and relatives and our own visits, we decided to make it long-term.
My wife is more settled in her own self and appears to be less fraught/stressed than she was living with me at home.

Our mum has been a resident at The New Wycliffe for 11 months. She is now 98 years old, registered as severely visually impaired and has lived with dementia for over 10 years.
When we could no longer support mum living alone we were really fortunate to find a room at New Wycliffe. The 24/7 care has given us such peace of mind and the staff are so caring and diligent.
Following a short stay in the hospital, Mum has been welcomed back with open arms by the staff who all genuinely love our mum.
My family visit her regularly and all confirm that the staff at the New Wycliffe are caring, well-trained and competent to interact positively with all of the residents.
We are so pleased that we have been able to place Mum at the New Wycliffe.

My mother moved into the Home for an initial assessment period of four weeks in September 2022. She is now a permanent resident.
We were aware of the strong reputation of the home previously as a distant family member had been a resident a few years ago.
We have not been disappointed – the home itself is both warm and welcoming and having met many of the staff during the last three months they have been fabulous with Mum and all the family members who have visited. They are passionate about the support they provide and the culture within the home and the value base of the team are both refreshing. The management team clearly lead by example and have found the time to help us as a family manage what is always a challenging transition period for all concerned.
Most importantly – they have provided peace of mind to Dad who has both personal trust and confidence in the home itself and the team within. As a family – we would like to thank all the staff for their ongoing support and encouragement.

My father has been a resident at New Wycliffe for just under a year. He suffers with dementia and mobility issues The way the staff have dealt with Dad has been fantastic. He is always clean and tidy with a cheeky smile. They all spend time with him and show him love and respect and I will always be grateful for that. Thank you.

We came in to recce the home for a week’s respite for my mum who is partially sighted and not very mobile.
From the minute we walked in we knew this wasn’t a care home – it was a caring home from home.
The manager was just lovely, engaging, informative and trustworthy.
He spent over an hour with us there was no hard sell, no rush and we came away feeling uplifted about the care, beautiful surroundings, menus etc.
